Spend a week discovering the southern coast of Turkey from Marmaris to Kalkan aboard a traditional Turkish motor sailing vessel. Touring the coast and back-country by bike, your tour guide will show you the unique natural wonders and ancient sites.
You’ll wonder at the famous rock-cut Lycian tombs of Kaunos which were cut into the cliffs between 4 and 2 BC by the Lycian people, and see the breathtaking Sakklikent Canyon. Spend your evenings in deserted bays or at quaint harbourside villages and towns enjoying their many cafes and bars.
Day 1 (Saturday):
Arrive Dalaman Airport and transfer to Marmaris (transfer additional) . Bording from 2pm. After dinner enjoy an evening stroll through the city‘s labyrinth of winding streets.
Day 2 Marmaris – Bozburun Peninsula – Ekincik (55 km):
Our first bike tour takes along a coastal stretch and mountain roads through one of the most authentic and pristine regions of the Turkish Mediterranean coast, to a village high on the Bozburun Peninsula. The ship will take us across to the small port of Ekincik, where we spend the night.
Day 3 Ekincik – Dalyan – Kaunos (30 km):
Today, we cycle across a high pass to Lake Köycegiz, and continue to Dalyan, where an excursion boat will take us past the impressive Lykian rock graves of Dalyan to the ancient city of Kaunos, then back to the ship where a delicious dinner is waiting for us.
Day 4 Dalyan – Sarsala Bay (54 km):
From Dalyan we cycle along quiet roads through lush vegetation. In Dalaman, we stop for a typical Turkish tea break. We continue afterwards through the fertile and partially wooded Dalaman Plain as far as Sarsala, a quiet bay, where we spend the night.
Day 5 Sarsala Bay – Göcek - Gemiler (28 km):
From Sarsala we cycle once across the Dalaman Plain and later via a pass road to Göcek. In the afternoon, passing many small islands, the ship brings us to Gemiler, where in the evening we can explore the extensive Byzantine ruins.
Day 6 Gemiler – Kayaköy – Fethiye (30 km):
Today we cycle through pinewoods to the Greek town of Kayaköy, where we spend some time here to explore the impressive town ruins on foot. We then continue on to Fethiye, where we have enough time in the evening to go on an walk to explore this lively town.
Day 7 Fethiye – Kemer – Saklikent – Kalkan (54 km):
Today’s bike tour is in the impressive Taurus Mountains. We cycle from there to the Saklikent Canyon, where we have lunch by the river. Ans the spectacular gorge can easily be explored on foot. We continue southward as far as Kalkan, where we spend the final night.
Day 8 Departure:
Arrangements end after breakfast.
Day tours average 40 km through partly hilly and mountainous terrain. There will also be extended climbs. Most roads are asphalted. You can set aside a whole or half-day for swimming or relaxing on board the boat whenever you want.
