Guided Group Tour Dijon - Tournus or VV - 8 Days / 7 Nights

Burgundy epitomises excellent wines, impressive castles, rolling landscapes, old monasteries and a lot more.

The tour starts from the capital of Burgundy, Dijon and follows the Canal of Burgundy and the River Saône until you reach Tournus. The scenery changes from small villages and rolling hills to lively and attractive historical towns like Beaune and Chalon sur Saône.
 
 
Highlights of this tour include: wine tasting Burgundy wines;- cruise on the Saône River; guided city walks of Dijon and Beaune; plus several visits to castles, museums and abbeys enroute.
A comfortable barge will be your floating hotel. All cabins have private shower and toilet and the salon and dining area are light, airy and comfortable. Each night you will enjoy a three course dinner with your fellow tour companions. Unpack once, then relax and enjoy all Burgundy has to offer.
 

Your Journey

Day 1 Arrive Dijon:

The beautiful capital of Burgundy. In the afternoon board the ship. Free evening to explore Dijon.

Day 2 Dijon (20 km):

A short bike takes you north west in the Dijon region. Return to Dijon for an afternoon walk with your guide.

Day 3 Dijon to Longecourt en Plaine (45 km):

A morning sail along the pretty Burgundy Canal. Afternoon bike to the quaint village of Longecourt en Plaine.

Day 4 Longecourt en Plaine to St Jean de Losne (45 km):

Cross small roads past pretty villages to Auxonne on the River Saône. Follow towpaths to St Jean de Losne to join the barge.

Day 5 St Jean de Losne to Seurre (45 km):

Visit the charming Musee de la Batellerie in St Jean de Losne. Cycle pass the abbaye de Citeaux where you can taste the famous abbey cheese. Continue a trail along the river Saone to the small town of Seurre.

Day 6 Seurre to Beaune to Chalon sur Saone (25 km):

Visit the beautiful fortified town of Beaune, also known for its wines (Cote d’Or). Guided walk through the town and visit the church ‘Collegiale Notre-Dame’ or the museum of Burgundy wines. Continue by train to Chalon sur Saone, a port town to meet the barge.

Day 7 Chalon sur Saône to Tournus (60 km):

Follow an old railway track now a cycle path. Stop in Buxy to visit a winery in an old tower. Continue to Tournus, to visit the beautiful 10C abbey of St Philibert, one of the oldest in France.

Day 8:

Arrangements end with a train transfer to Dijon.

Terrain

Mostly easy, flat to slightly rolling.

Meals

Board includes breakfast, lunch packet and dinner daily.
