Guided & Self-guided Tour - 11 Days / 10 Nights

Explore the Baltic coast and the National Parks of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia on very scenic routes. The tour includes the three capital cities – Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn – with their Old towns designated as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO; and the previously-closed Curonian Spit and beautiful Estonian island. Travel from Lithuania in the south, through Latvia and on to Estonia in the north; experience a wide variety of towns, villages and countryside for an excellent introduction to the very distinct characters of these unique and beautiful countries.

Your Journey

Day 1 (Monday) Vilnius:

Arrive in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania, which boasts one of the most impressive examples of Baroque architecture in northern Europe. It lies on the bank of Neris river, and the centre is a maze of atmospheric alleyways lined with solid, eighteenth-century town houses, punctuated by archways leading through to cobbled backyards. There is a welcome meeting at 7.00pm with your tour guide.

Day 2 (Tuesday) VILNIUS-TRAKAI Insular Castle-KAUNAS Cycling ~33 km, by coach ~100 km:

After breakfast there is a guided tour of Vilnius, exploring the highlights of the 600 year old capital city. Most sights are concentrated in a reasonably compact area on the south bank of the River Neris. At the centre of the city is the main square, Katedros aikštė, site of the cathedral. South of here extends the atmospheric Old Town, with its impressive Baroque churches and esteemed university buildings. Afternoon cycle ride through a picturesque countryside of lakes and gentle hills to Trakai, the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Visit the 14th century island castle built on a small island in Lake Galvė. Transfer by coach to Kaunas.

Day 3 (Wednesday) KAUNAS-VENTĖ Horn-KLAIPEDA Cycling ~35 km, by coach ~235 km

Morning bike ride along the Nemunas River to the coast. Along the way you pass the Veliuona mound hill and the impressive 16th-17th century castles of Raudonė and Panemunė. Take a short ferry ride across the river. Enjoy a picnic lunch followed by a transfer by bus to the Baltic coast. Stop at Ventė Horn including a visit to a bird observatory and the 19th century lighthouse which was used for more than 100 years. Arrive in Klaipeda, the main seaport of Lithuania.

Day 4 (Thursday) CURONIAN SPIT NATIONAL PARK Cycling ~58 km, Coach or boat 50 km

Follow the Seaside Cycle Route along the Curonian Spit, famous for its amber and fine sand beaches, to Nida. En route enjoy the views of the Curonian Spit and its shifting sand dunes, that separate the Baltic Sea from the Curonian Lagoon. Enjoy sightseeing around Nida, one of the most beautiful resorts in Lithuania. Explore the Amber Gallery and summer house of famous German writer Thomas Mann before transferring by bus back to Klaipėda. Check-in and optional dinner at the hotel.

Day 5 (Friday) KLAIPĖDA-PALANGA Resort-Hill of Crosses-RIGA Cycling ~32 km, by coach ~290 km

Early morning ride to Palanga through the Seaside Regional Park. Arrive in Palanga, the biggest Lithuanian seaside resort for tourists which includes a visit to the Botanical Garden and the Amber Museum in the Palace of Count Tyszkiewicz, with over 25000 pieces of amber and 15000 insects on display. Afternoon transfer to Riga (Latvia). En-route stop at the Hill of Crosses, the unforgettable sight of thousands of crosses on two small hills. Continue to Riga the capital city of Latvia. Dinner is included at your hotel.

Day 6 (Saturday) RIGA-JURMALA Seaside Resort Cycling ~45 km, by coach ~20 km:

After breakfast enjoy a guided tour of Riga, a medieval Hanseatic town: see Riga castle, St.Peter`s Church, Dome Cathedral and the Old Guild Houses. In the afternoon we cycle to Jurmala, the largest resort in the Baltic States well known for its long, white, sand beaches, mineral waters and mud with healing properties. Transfer back by coach to the hotel in Riga.

Day 7 (Sunday) GAUJA National Park & Bicycle Museum – RIGA Cycling ~40 km, by coach ~50 km:

Morning transfer to Saulkrasti to visit the Latvia Bicycle Museum. Then cycle to Sigulda, the most popular resort in Latvia, in the Gauja River Valley. Cycling through Gauja National Park to Saulkrasti, en route enjoy spectacular views of Gauja River valley with Gutmana Cave, visit Turaida Castle and the oldest Latvian Church, Krimulda, built in 1205. Overnight in Sigulda. Optional dinner at the hotel.

Day 8 (Monday) SIGULDA - SAAREMAA ISLAND Cycling ~38 km, by coach ~330 km, by ferry 6 km:

Morning transfer to Estonia's largest island, Saaremaa, where all that is wonderful about old Estonia is perfectly preserved. With little traffic and flat roads Saaremaa provides an idyllic rural setting for cycling. Travel on picturesque roads along the Baltic Sea Coast to the village of Angla where the iconic windmills are located. Transfer to Mandjala or Kuressaare. Overnight Mandjala or Kuressaare. Dinner is included

Day 9 (Tuesday) SAAREMAA ISLAND Cycling ~56 km, by coach ~50 km

Day ride across Saaremaa Island’s wild beauty to the Sorve lighthouse. End the day with a visit to Kuressaare, the capital of Saaremaa, home to one of the finest preserved medieval Episcopal Castles in the Baltics, dating from 13thC. There is free time to explore the town and the Bishops Castle. Overnight Mandjala or Kuressaare.

Day 10 (Wednesday) SAAREMAA &-TALLINN Cycling ~37 or 28 km, by coach ~210 km, ferry 6 km:

Enjoy a morning ride to Kaali meteorite crater which is listed on the world’s giant crater list and is known as the rarest natural wonder in Estonia. Afternoon transfer by coach to Tallinn, check-in at the hotel is followed by a guided tour of Tallinn Old Town. Farewell dinner in a local restaurant is included tonight.

Day 11 (Thursday) TALLINN

Tour ends after breakfast at the hotel.

Terrain

Moderate level of fitness is required, cycling varies between 30km- 55km each day. Terrain is mostly flat and cycling on asphalt.
