Best of Holland by Bike and Barge

Guided 8 Days / 7 Nights

This cycle tour is the essence of Holland. Visit authentic towns of Volendam and Marken where locals dress in traditional costumes. Try eel and herring in an old fishing village. Cycle the expanse of Waterland with its tiny lakes and canals, and the ‘Green Heart of Holland’. As well as pleasant countryside there are also historic towns to explore.

Your Journey

Day 1 Amsterdam – Zaandam (1 – 5 km)

Embarkation starts at 2.00 pm. Cruise to Zaandam during dinner then enjoy a short test ride.

Day 2 Zaandam – Zaanse Schans Museum – Waterland – Volendam (33 – 46 km)

Cycle to the open-air museum - Zaanse Schans, then continue through beautiful wetlands to the small fishing harbour of Volendam.

Day 3 Volendam – Marken – Weesp - Vianen ( 35 – 45 km)

Cross by ferry to the historic village of Marken. Continue to Muiden with its 14thC waterfront castle. Join the barge in Weesp to cruise to the fortified town of Vianen for overnight.

Day 4 Vianen – Schoonhoven – Dordrecht (22 or 48 km)

Cycle to the ‘Silver City’ Schoohoven known for its talented silver smiths. Continue through the Alblasserwaard polder land (reclaimed from the sea) and on to the old city of Dordrecht. This evening enjoy a short city walk with your guide.

Day 5 Dordrecht – Kinderdijk – Gouda (30 km)

Bike to the famous 19 large windmills at Kinderdijk then on to the lovely historic ‘cheese’ city of Gouda. Visit the old market square and Cheese Weighing House. Tonight you are free to make your own arrangements for dinner.

Day 6 Gouda – Leiden – Oude Wetering (40 – 54 km)

From Gouda cycle through the “Green Heart Of Holland” with small canals and tiny lakes – all below sea level! You have the choice to go via Leiden, birthplace of the famous painter Rembrandt.

Day 7 Oude Wetering – Amsterdam (23 – 43 km)

Cycle from the small village of Oude Wetering into Amsterdam along the Amstel River. Enroute, visit a cheese and clog farm. Enjoy a farewell dinner on board.

Day 8 Tour ends in Amsterdam

Disembark after breakfast.
