From Koblenz to Mainz & VV

Travel between Koblenz, Worms and Mainz through beautiful wine-growing areas along the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, and along the Rhine cycle route.

Beautiful scenery lines the cycle paths along the rivers, interspersed with famous cities, valley slopes with vineyards and picturesque villages. 

Highlights:

  • City of Worms with its famous cathedral
  • Cycle through the Rhineland Massif, adorned by castles
  • Wine tasting and dinner at a vineyard (optional extra)
  • Traditional half-timbered buildings, impressive cathedrals and castles

 

Your Journey

Day 1: Koblenz

Board at 4 pm and spend the first night in Koblenz.

Day 2: Koblenz - Boppard   (ca. 23 km)

You begin your first cycle tour in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley in Koblenz to Boppard.  A cycle route on the left bank, along the Rhine River towards Boppard surrounded by vineyards and castle ruins. 

Day 3: Boppard - Oberwesel (ca.20 km)

Cycling tour from Boppard along the Rhine to Oberwesel, enjoying from the bank of the river many fortresses and the legendary Lopreley cliff which offers a picturesque backdrop along the way.

Day 4: Oberwesel - Rudesheim (ca. 25 km)

Cycle out of Oberwesel, past slate cliffs and through forests, passing the Pfalzarafenstein Castle near Kaub before reaching the wine town of Bingen, where you will find the world-famous Drosselgasse.

Day 5: Rudesheim - Mainz (ca. 30 km)

On your way you ride past Eitville, the Electroal Castle is well worth a visit.  On towards Mainz Mainz where you can visit the many churches, museums and monuments.

Day 6: Mainz - Nierstein (ca. 30 km) / Boat Tour Nierstein -Worms

Cycle on the well-paved Rhine Cycle Route to Nierstein.  With its hectares of vineyards, Nierstein is the biggest Wine-growing area on the Rhine.  In the afternoon, enjoy the boat tour from Nierstein to Worms.

Day 7: Worms - Nierstein (37 km) / Boat Tour Nierstein - Mainz 

Start with a cycle tour in Worms.  Then along side the Rhine River and the many vineyards heading towards Nierstein.  From there your boat cruises to Mainz

Day 8: Tour ends in Mainz

Disembark after breakfast.

Terrain / Grade

Easy to cycling on paved tracts without any gradients of note. Cycle 190-220 kms in 6 days.
