Catalonia - Pyrenees to the Costa Brava

Self-Guided Cycle Tour - 8 days/7 nights

Travel from the heights of the Pyrenees on the Spanish border with France to the rugged and beautiful coast of the Costa Brava.

Cycle through forests, alongside rivers, agricultural fields and towns of great cultural and historic interest like Ripoli and Sant Joan de les Abadesses. Spend a night in ‘Game Of Thrones” Girona and wander the Old Town and Jewish Quarter. End your tour at the chic beach resort of Callela de Palafrugell which retains its’ old fishing village atmosphere.
 

Your Journey

Day 1 Setcases:

Transfer at 4 pm from Barcelona Airport to the stone village of Setcases.

Day 2 - Down the Pyrenees. Vallter – Ripoll (35 - 47 kms)

Transfer to Valter at 2,000m and ‘roll’ down to Sant Joan de les Abbesses. Continue along the Greenway to Ripoli. Visit its outstanding Romanesque monastery and Old Town.

Day 3 – Ripoll – Olot (39 kms):

Climb Mt Capsacosta (the only hill you will have to climb!) then descend through volcanoes to Olot.

Day 4 - Olot – Girona (60 kms):

Cycle along a disused railway line through the valley of Val d’en Bas stopping at typical villages along the way. Continue along river valleys to Girona.

Day 5 - Girona - Costa Brava and Mediterranean Sea! (40 kms):

Follow an old railway trail to reach the wonderful sea port of Sant Feliu then on to the beach of Sant Pol.

Day 6 – Sant Feliu – Calella de Palafrugell (32 kms):

Turn northwards up the coast to Callela de Palafrugell via Palamos Bay. Pass delightful fishing villages enroute.

Day 7 - Costa Brava medieval towns – circuit route from Calella de Palafrugell (38kms):

Cycle inland to the region of Baix Empordà with its across pretty medieval villages and quaint terracotta coloured towns. Stop off for a glass of the region's wine and flavoursome tapas in the tiny local bars.

Day 8:

Tour ends after breakfast.

Terrain

Easy to moderate. Day 3 there is a climb of 6km but only 300m, and there are no cars. Terrain: 40% gravel (cyclist path), 10% paths and 60% asphalt.
