Discover Champagne by Bike

Independent tour - 7 Days / 6 Nights, Approx. 184km

The Champagne region of France is marked by the world famous vineyards that produce the vintage champagne that is made there and rightfully claims the name of the region.Nowhere else can you better discover, understand and learn to love the tiny bubbles that are synonymous with joy and happiness.

The region is not only renowned for its delectable drop but has a fabulous religious heritage as well, the jewel of which is Reims. The city is home to no less than three UNESCO World Heritage sites, including one of the finest Gothic Cathedrals in Northern Europe where 25 kings of France were crowned.

Your Journey

Day 1:

Arrive Reims. Allow time to visit the splendid cathedral. Meet the route manager for a briefing and to receive your bikes.

Day 2 Reims - Matougues (49km):

Cycle via Tinqueux through the typical vineyards villages of the Montagne de Reims, Chigny (villages Louse Pommery), Verzenay and Bouzy. The latter has Grand Cru status with a top rating of 100 percent under the region's percentage system.

Day 3 Matougues - Epernay (29km):

Bike to Epernay alongside the Marne Canal. Visit Epernay's famous wine cellars this afternoon.

Day 4 Epernay - Loop ride in Marne Valley (36km):

Be introduced to the rich viticultural heritage of the Champagne Trail in the Marne Valley, via Hautvillers, Venteuil and Reuil. Return to Epernay on the other side of the Marne.

Day 5 Epernay - Loop ride in Cote des Blancs (30km):

Today visit the vineyards of the Cote des Blancs, home of the chardonnay grape. Cycle via villages of Pierry, Cuis, Cramant and Avize. Return to Epernay in the afternoon.

Day 6 Epernay - Reims (36km):

Cycle through the national forest of Hautvillers and pass through Avenay Val'Or Germaine, Return to Reims via Ludes.

Day 7 Reims:

Arrangements conclude after breakfast.

Terrain

Easy to moderate with some hilly terrain. Most days are short allowing you plenty of time to visit the famous vineyards and taste the world renowned champagne.

Meals

Breakfast daily. Half board (breakfast & dinner) is available and recommended.
