Southern Dalmatian Islands by Bike & Boat

Premium/Deluxe - Guided - 8 Days / 7 Nights, Approximately 230km.
Hybrid Bike / Electric Bike options on some departures

Croatia has a wonderful and dramatic coastline with thousands of islands, reefs and bays. There are romantic ruins, enchanting mountains, innumerable sites of natural beauty and phenomena.

Our bike tours in Southern Dalmatia, the smallest and most sparsely populated region of Croatia, will take you past unique little towns and the beautiful island countryside. Experience the beautiful island of Korčula with its picturesque old township; the wine growing peninsula of Pelješac; and, on the south of the peninsula, the island of Mljet, with its impressive national park. Our tour guide will guide you through the towns of Trogir, Hvar, Stari Grad and Korčula, some of which are protected as UNESCO‘s World Heritage sites.

Standard ships are available on a similar route. See here.

Your Journey

Day 1 (Friday): Boarding in Trogir (cruise Trogir -Hvar)

Board your vessel at 2 pm. At 3 pm cruise to the lovely port of Stari Grad, one of Croatia’s oldest towns, on the island of Hvar. After dinner take a stroll through this fabulous town.

Day 2 (Saturday): Islands of Hvar and Vis (20 km + 22 km)

Cycle along quiet lanes and minor roads through small island settlements to the picturesque harbours of Jelsa and Vrboska. Return to the boat for lunch. Cycle on almost traffic free roads to the Island‘s capital Hvar through lovely landscapes and lavender fields (in full bloom between July and August). Don’t forget to try the lavender honey. Free time to explore Hvar where we visit the magnificent Renaissance square and enjoy the view from the Spanish Fortress high above the town.
Re-board the boat for an afternoon cruise to the island of Vis. Overnight in Vis.

Day 3 (Sunday) Vis Island (32 km)

Vis is the island that is located farthest from the mainland. Over 2,000 years ago there was already a Greek colony called Issa on the island. Due to its strategic location, it was a military zone until 1995 and tourism was prohibited. Today, you have the opportunity to explore the lovely island by bicycle.
OPTION: take a 3 hour jeep tour round the island (pay on the spot €35). In the afternoon leave Vis and cruise to the nearby island of Korcula. Enroute we’ll stop in a quiet bay for a swim, before mooring in the pleasant port town of Vela Luka on Korcula for the night.

Day 4 (Monday ) Korčula Island (62 km)

Today’s ride leads you along the length of what is widely considered to be Dalmatia’s most beautiful island. The route leads us through aromatic pine forests and along the island’s incredibly scenic south coast where a string of tiny islands dot the surface of the coral blue sea. We’ll stop at a taverna where lunch is at your own expense before pedalling on along a scenic coastal road enjoying more fabulous sea views. The last section leads us via the village of Blato, like Rome built on seven hills, along a pass road across Pupnat Bay and finally to Korčula town, where we have time to walk through the wonderful old town with its narrow “fishbone like” alleys. We stay overnight in Korčula town.

Day 5 (Tuesday) Brac Island (cycling approx. 35 km)

After breakfast we cruise to the Island of Brac, famous for its’ radiant marble used for the White House in Washington and Reichstag building in Berlin. After a swim break followed by lunch, we start cycling to Sumartin then on to the charming fishing village Povlja and on to the picturesque harbour town of Pucisca.

Day 6 (Wednesday) Split (cycling approx. 17 km)

Enjoy a cruise during breakfast to Split. Today you have the option of taking part in a bike tour in the Marjan Forest in Split or taking the bus to the Cetina Canyon for a rafting excursion (not included in tour price) on the Cetina River. The Old Town of Split, built adjoining the famous palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, is a World Heritage site. Overnight stay in Split.

Day 7 (Thursday) Šolta - Trogir (cycling approx. 19km)

During breakfast you cruise to the pretty harbour of Stomorska on the island of Solta for the last bicycle tour. Walled fields, numerous olive groves, carob and fig trees line the road. The spicy smell of lavender and rosemary accompany us during our tour around the island. In Maslinica we re-board the boat to go back to Trogir where we have enough time to visit the old city, a World Heritage site. Traditionally the last evening dinner before disembarkation is spent with guests, crew and guides.

Day 8 (Friday) Cruise ends in Trogir

After breakfast disembark by 9 am.

Terrain/Grade

Moderate – Challenging: It is hilly - cycle tours require a good level of fitness, acquired from steady cycling and long uphill climbs if you wish to use a 21-speed Hybrid bike. Electric bikes will allow anyone of average fitness to manage the hills. The tours will take us up to a height of 200 - 500 m above sea-level.
