Best of Slovenia Cycle Tour

Independent & Guided Group Tour - 11 Days / 10 Nights

The tiny country of Slovenia is a special gem for biking. Nestled between the alps and the Adriatic Sea, Slovenia has a wealth of quiet country roads, impressive scenery, natural beauty and friendly people.

Begin your tour at stunning Lake Bled, at the foot of the Julian Alps with its iconic island church. You’ll find villages steeped in tradition en route to gorgeous high-altitude Lake Bohinj which is overlooked by Mt Triglav, highest mountain in Slovenia. Journey to Ljubljana, with its unique Austrian flavour and vibrant cultural scene; visit the fairytale cave in Postojna; the world-renowned Lipzaner horses, lastly the seaside town of Koper located on the Adriatic coast.

Your Journey

Day 1 Bled:

Arrive in Bled, a picturesque town surrounded by mountain peaks. Bled’s medieval castle is perched atop a steep cliff overlooking the lake.

Day 2 BLED – BOHINJ (19km + 32km)

Today transfer to the top of the Pokljuka Plateau, and roll downhill to the romantic Bohinj Valley. Cycle around the lake to Savica Waterfall. Take the cable car up to Vogel Mountain for a spectacular view of Mt Triglav. Spend the evening in one of the cosy village pubs sampling the local homemade brandy.

Day 3 BOHINJ – SKOFJA LOKA (53kms)

Cycle beautiful alpine villages. Optional transfer to the Jelovica high plateau. Cycle through forests and valleys. Allow time to stop at a local inn to try the delicious trout . Visit the gallery of famous Slovene Painter Ivan Grohar and the historic iron smeltering town of Zelezniki. In the evening wander the old streets of this historic town.

Day 4 SKOFJALOKA – LJUBLJANA (31kms)

Easy bike ride through flat country roads to Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana.

Day 5 LJUBLJANA – VRHNIKA (39kms)

A nice easy day cycling across wetlands , rich in birdlife . Visit the remnants of the world’s highest viaduct in Borovnica, the hunting collection and president Tito’s cars exhibition housed in Bistra Castle.

Day 6 VRHNIKA - POSTOJNA (32kms +12kms)

Experience the real Slovenian countryside as you cycle across fields, hills and forest roads passing the beautiful Slivnica Mountain and Planina Lake.

Day 7 POSTOJNA –STANJEL (42kms +6 kms)

Discover the extensive fairytale world of large colourful stalactites and stalagmites at Postojna Cave. Side trip to Predjama Castle , wedged into a crevasse halfway up a 123m cliff face.

Day 8 STANJEL  – LIPICA –DIVACA (48kms) :

Cycle through the countryside stopping at the botanical garden in Sezana, Lipica stud farm where you can visit the world renowned Lipzaner horses

Day 9  DIVACA - MUGGIA (38kms side trip to Trieste) :

Visit the Skocian Caves listed as a UNESCO natural monument.  Take a slight diversion into the town of Trieste with its worldly flair and atmosphere. 

Day 10 MUGGIA - PIRAN (37kms + 11Km side trip to Seca Saltpans)

Cycle along the coast on the new cycling path a former railway line. Ending at the gorgeous Venetian harbour town of Piran.
