Amsterdam to Maastricht or Vice Versa

GUIDED 8 Days / 7 Nights - Comfort standard barges

Travel to Netherland’s southernmost city of Maastricht to discover a magical flat green landscape dotted with historic towns, castles and gardens – a region that was home to famous painters Hubert and Jan van Eyck plus the architect Pierre Cupers who designed the Rijksmuseum and Central Station in Amsterdam.

Your Journey

Day 1 (Saturday): Maastricht

Cycling: 5 km

1.00 pm Arrival in Maastricht. After dinner enjoy a guided walk through the centre of town to discover its’ attractions: the treasure house of the St. Servaas Church, the Bonnefanten Museum for art and antiquity, and the Kazematten, a system of underground fortress works from the 18th century.

Day 2 (Sunday): Maastricht – Born/ Born – Roermond

Cycling: 40 km

During breakfast cruise to Born via the Juliana Canal from where you bike over the Dutch/Belgian border into Belgium to Maaseik, a pretty town with typical Renaissance houses lining the market square. Continue via the ‘white village’’ of Thorn to the city of Roermond, is known by its rich cultural heritage and many historical buildings.

Day 3 (Monday): Roermond - Venlo –Arcen

Cycling: about 50 km

Start biking following the river on the east bank to the beautiful village of Beesel, then you cross over to the other bank to Kessel, one of the oldest villages on the Meuse. Spend lunchtime in the lively yet historical town of Venlo. Finish the ride at Arcen, a former fortified town on the banks of the Meuse. There you can visit the beautiful castle gardens, a feature of Arcen

Day 4 (Tuesday) Arcen – Cuijk

Cycling: 53 km

A magnificent bike tour today starting at Well Castle dating from the 14thC then through the National Park Maasduinen close to the German border. The barge awaits in Cuijk, another interesting city on the banks of the Meuse. The St. Martins Church, a Neo-Gothic church, houses a very well kept Baroque organ (built 1639-1650).

Day 5 (Wednesday): Cuijk- Maasbommel/ Maasbommel – Heusden

Cycling: 40 km

Cycle to the medieval cities of Grave and Ravenstein. In Ravenstein you can visit the Tanners’ Cottages in the city park. From Maasbommel rejoin the barge and sail to Heusden, a beautifully restored fortified city.

Day 6 (Thursday): Heusden – Gorinchem/ Gorinchem – Vianen

Cycling: 41 km

Cruise to Gorinchem, a charming town on the Waal River, from where you cycle through a typical Dutch landscape to Leerdam a little town famous for its glasswork. A visit of the centuries-old crystal factory of Royal Leerdam is the highlight of the day. After cycle to Vianen, a small fortified town on the Lek River.

Day 7 (Friday): Vianen – Breukelen/ Breukelen – Amsterdam

Cycling: 42 km

Cruise to Breukelen during breakfast. The bike tour leads along the winding Vecht River to Amsterdam and includes a visit to a mill in Loenen. The final destination is Amsterdam, where you can take a tour through the canals or visit the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum.

Day 8 (Saturday): Amsterdam
