Dresden to Berlin

Self Guided Cycle Tour - 8 Days/7 Nights

This cycle tour features many of Germany’s highlights:

  • The spires, towers, treasures and domes of Dresden.
  • Elbe Valley and Saxon vineyards.
  • Meissen, birthplace of porcelain.
  • Historic Torgau on the banks of the Elbe.
  • Wittenberg where Martin Luther was a professor of theology in the 16th century.
  • Romantic Belzig.
  • UNESCO World Heritage palaces and parks of Potsdam and Berlin.
  • Sanssouci, the former summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia rivals Versailles in France.

Your Journey

Day 1: Arrive Dresden.

Visit Zwinger Palace, Semperoper Opera House, Dresden’s impressive museums and stroll through the Baroque Old Town.

Visit the Hofbrauhaus and numerous museums or just wander the lanes and alley ways lined with centuries old buildings.

Day 2: Dresden to Meissen 25 kms

Cycle the Elbe valley through Saxon vineyards to Meissen with its Gothic cathedral and fairytale-like castle.

Day 3: Meissen to Riesa - 35kms

Cycle through Germany’s most northern vineyards and via the Baroque castle Diesbar-Seußlitz to Riesa.

Day 4: Reisa to Torgau - 45kms

Follow the Elbe River to Mühlberg and Marienstern Abbey, a former Cistercian nunnery. Continue to the Renaissance town of Torgau - an architectural gem with its market square, Renaissance town hall and magnificent patrician town houses.

Day 5: The Martin Luther trail to Wittenberg - 65km

From Saxony-Anhalt cycle Lichtenberg and Pretzsch towards Wittenberg where Martin Luther lived, preached and posted his 95 theses at the door of All Saints’ Church.

Day 6: Wittenberg to Belzig - 40km

Cycle through Hohe Fläming National Park to the health resort town of Belzig. Visit the Eisenhardt fortress.

Day 7: Belzig to Potsdam - 55km

Cycle via Baitz and Beelitz to Potsdam where architects from many parts of Europe have created an architectural treasure especially the summer palace of Frederick the Great - Schloss Sanssouci. Potsdam is 20 minutes from Berlin city centre by train (twice-hourly departures).

Day 8: Potsdam

Arrangements end. Extend your stay in either Potsdam or Berlin.
