Greek Islands of the Central Aegean by Bike & Boat

8 DAYS / 7 NIGHTS Departs from Bodrum (Turkey)

Explore cruising on a comfortable Turkish gulet and by bike the sunny islands of the Greek Aegean, a magical and mythical world filled with historical monuments and an abundance of stories. Visit the ancient Asclepion where Hippocrates, the famous physician, practiced his art. Enjoy the peaceful and lovely island of Lipsi, and dive into the atmosphere of the holy island Patmos. Swimming, wandering quaint fishing villages, enjoying Greek cuisine and relaxing are all part of this wonderful week.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Bodrum (Turkey)

Board your gullet at 2 pm. Arrive early to enjoy the lively vibe of the city of Bodrum.

Day 2 Kos Island – Kos Town (cycling 30 km)

Morning cruise to Kos. Cycle to picturesque Tigaki Beach. where the Mediterranean Sea invites for a refreshing swim. En route Pass the famous archaeological site of the Ascllpion of Kos, where Hippocrates, the renowned physician, practiced modern medicine. Spend the evening in Kos. Take a short walking tour of the Roman forum, the fortress of the Knights of St John, and the mosques.

Day 3 Leros Island (cycling 28 km)

Cruise to the varied and green island of Leros with its small harbours. Today’s cycling tour leads to the fort of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem in Agia Marina and along the coastline to a gorgeous sand beach. Cross to Patmos with its snow-white upper town and towering monastery.

Day 4 Patmos & Lipsi Islands (cycling 12 - 16 km)

On a short panoramic cycle route visit Patmos and its grotto. The world-famous monastery of St. John of Chora is found in a village with numerous white alleys, 34 churches and chapels. Meet the boat for lunch and cruise on to the charming harbour town of Lipsi.

Day 5 Lipsi Island - Kalymnos Island (cycling 9 - 16 km)

Cycle tour of Lipsi then cross to Kalymnos to the main port of  Pothia.   Explore the old town of Pothia on foot. You can clearly see the wealth which sponge diving brought to the inhabitants of this town.

Day 6 Kalymnos Island (cycling 42 km)

Cycle a circuit ride of the island, Pass through a surprisingly green valley on this barren island and enjoy wonderful views of the bay-rich coast.  Back in Pothia, the ship awaits us for lunch and the crossing to Kos Town for an overnight stay.

Day 7 Kos Island - Bodrum (cycling 24 km)

The last cycling trip leads to the Embros thermal spring.  After lunch enjoy your cruise back to Bodrum arriving in time to walk through the lively and oriental Old Town with its impressive castle of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem and the remains of the famous Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Share a farewell dinner with the crew and your fellow guests this evening.

Day 8 Tour ends in Bodrum

Disembark after breakfast by 9 a.m.

 

GRADE / TERRAIN: moderate to challenging

Cycling tours average 25 km per day, through mainly hilly or mountainous terrain. There are 2 days on Kalymnos and Kos that are challenging however most of the cycling is on tar-sealed roads with little traffic. E-bikes are available and you can choose to skip a ride and cruise with the vessel if you prefer.

MEALS

Half board which includes breakfast and one cooked meal per day, either lunch or dinner. This allows you to experience the local tavernas.
