Stroll through the picturesque, medieval town of Nafplio with its imposing fortifications and embark on a geological journey through time on the volcanic peninsula of Methana! The ‘pistachio’ island of Aegina is where the Temple of Aphaia sits enthroned high above the blue of the sea. The completely traffic-free island of Hydra is where countless donkeys have been the only means of transport since time immemorial. The islands of Poros and Spetses, fragrant with wild herbs, are sure to enchant your senses as you take in panoramic views while cycling along deserted roads! Your Journey

Day 1

Arrive Athens and board your vessel in Piraeus Harbour.

Day 2 Island of Poros

Sail to the island of Poros. Afternoon cycle tour from the island’s capital Poros, towards the 18th century Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. Continue on, almost completely circle of the island considered in ancient times to be the island of Poseidon, God of the Sea. Stop to bathe in the turquoise waters at a sandy cove.

Day 3 Galatas – Ermioni – Porto Heli

Go by small car ferry from Poros to Galatas in the Pelopennese and bike to the small coastal town of Ermioni, where your boat awaits you for lunch and a leisurely afternoon crossing to Porto Heli.

Day 4 Island of Spetses

In the morning we make a short crossing to the island of Spetses with a long swimming break in a bay on the way. In the afternoon explore the charming old town of Spetses on foot. The island of Spetses got its name from the Venetians, who named it the island of herbs. Smell the scent of wild herbs during your afternooon bike ride as you cirle the entire island. Stopping at one of the lovely turquoise sea beaches for a swim and coffee. Afterwards explore the old harbour of Spetses by bike before retuning to the ship.

Day 5 Islands of Hydra - Methana Peninsula

This morning we cross over to the island of Hydra where donkeys have been the only means of transport since time immemorial. After exploring the port of Hydra on foot we continue onto the Methana peninsula. Methana Peninsula whose volcanic origin is immediately noticeable by the smell of sulphur and the shimmering colours of the rocks. The peninsula is characterised by its 30 plus volcanos, some of which are still active, as well as the medicinal, sulphurous thermal springs. In the afternoon enjoy a round trip with a coffee break in the enchanting fishing port of Vathy.

Day 6 Methana Peninsula – Island of Aegina

After breakfast we make another round trip on Methana with the incredible views along the way. In the afternoon, we sail to the island of Aegina, which is known for its incredible pistachio nuts! Your bike ride today is along the coast to the fishing village of Perdika.

Day 7 Aegina Island – Piraeus/Athens

The cycle tour today takes you up to the Sanctuary of Aphaia. This well-preserved temple towers high above the blue Aegean Sea. Return across the middle of the island past Nektarios Monastery all the way to Aegina city. Cruise back to Piraeus where we share a communal dinner and a final get-together with the crew and tour guides.

Day 8 Athens / Piraeus Harbour

Disembark after breakfast.

 

Terrain

Moderate to energetic with some hilly mountainous areas. Roads are mostly asphalted. Daily rides are between 23 to 50 km. Electric bikes available.
