Independent 8 Days / 7 Nights

La Rioja, south of Bilbao, may be famous for its wines but its landscape is a delight in every way: gentle rolling terrain carpeted with grapes; historic towns; impressive estates; stately homes; stone walls and ancient bridges.

On every hilltop stands a monumental church or castle, avant-garde wineries that produce some of the world’s finest wines, hide amongst the vineyards. The local calendar is ruled by planting, harvesting and wine-making. Discover the many facets of La Rioja on this tour enjoying local wines and regional cuisine. Your Journey

Day 1: Logrono

Arrival in Logrono, capital of la Rioja and a small vibrant historic city.

Day 2: Logrono to San Millan de la Cogollo (approx 38 km, +540m)

Transfer to the starting point and ride a section of the pilgrim route Camino de Santiago, to the beautiful town of San Millan de la Cogolla.

Day 3: San Millan de la Cogolla to Ezcaray (33 km, +420m)

Visit the Monasteries of Yuso and Suso. Enjoy an easy cycle through the countryside to Ezcaray. Tonight there is a chance to dine in a exclusive 2* Michelin Restaurant.

Day 4: Ezcaray to Haro (approx 35 km, +80m)

An easy cycle along a dedicated cycle lane via Santo Domingo de la Calzada and Casalareina, two rich historic and artistic towns. Onto Haro, the capital of wine production in the Rioja region.

Day 5: Circular route Haro (approx 31 km, +470m)

Today there is time to visit wineries in the region and also to ride along a delightful loop amongst the vineyards.

Day 6: Haro to Laguardia (approx 37 km, +660m)

Today cycle along the Ebro River to Briones and visit the wine museum . Enjoy quiet country roads via colourful landscapes until you reach the medieval town of Laguardia.

Day 7: Laguardia to Logrono (approx 31km, +165m)

Cycle to the town of El Ciego , famous for its Marques de Riscal vineyard and its spectacular building designed by architect Frank Gehry. Rejoin the Ebro River to return to Logrono.

Day 8: End of programme

After breakfast your cycling trip comes to an end.

Moderate, undulating/hilly terrain with approx. 3 ascents per day.
