Your JourneyDay 1: Arrive Turin Day 2 Turin to Pinerolo (51 km): Cycle along the Po River, on cycle paths and small roads, to the foot of the mountains. Reach the hunting palace of Stupinigi, the royal residence of the Savoia family, a masterpiece in rococo style. Travel through parks along the rivers until you reach Pinerolo. Day 3 Pinerolo – Cavour – Saluzzo (46 km): Cycle country roads past orchards and vineyards towards Cavour, with its curious “Rocca”, a morainic hill in the middle of the flat protected landscape. Day 4 Saluzzo – Fossano – Benevagienna – Bra/Cherasco (63/69 km): Encounter some slight inclines between Fossano and Benevagienna. Stop enroute to visit the castles of Manta and Cosigliole, the ancient Roman town of Benevafienna and its archeological area. Arrive Bra, at the edge of the Langhe hills, a lovely Baroque style town with its many churches and palace dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, the town is the home of the ‘Slow Food’ headquarters. Day 5 Bra/Cherasco – Pollenzo – Barolo – Alba (39/45 or 55/61 km): Cycle to the Roman village of Pollenzo, where you visit the University of Gastronomic Science for a wine tasting. Cycle along the Tanaro River towards Barolo. Reach Alba, home of the Ferrero Rocher factory, churning out the world’s best selling chocolates. Alba doesn’t disappoint foodies, as it is also home of the famous white truffle. Day 6 Alba – Asti (45/55 km): Today you will be in the Roero area with splendid castles like Guarene and Cisterna. Since 1950, the grapes grown in the area have produced Italy’s top sparkling wine – Asti Spumante. Day 7 Asti – Casale (56 km): Travel through the charming hills of the Monferrato, well known by gourmets around the globe. From Moncalvo, see great views of the hillside vineyards. Reach Casale is a baroque town at the foot of the hills of Monferrato, alongside the Po River. Day 8: Arrangements conclude after breakfast. Transfers can be arranged to Turin. TerrainMedium / easy, cycle paths and small roads, some dirt paths in fairly good condition, flat from Torino to Fossano, some easy hills in the Langhe to Barolo and in the Monferrato from Alba to Casale. |
