The region of Bordeaux, located in the sun drenched, south-western part of France, is the perfect setting for a bike and boat tour. Vineyards that cover the rolling hills of the region have for centuries produced France’s most remarkable wines. Appellations such as Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, Médoc and Margaux have made Bordeaux wines world famous. The area around Bordeaux is also well known for its culinary specialties: the cuisine on board is outstanding and menus will include regional specialties, prepared fresh ingredients, include fish, seafood and cheeses.

Your Journey

Day 1 (Sat) Castets-en- Dorthe embarkation from 3:00 PM. Cycling 10-15km:

Individual arrival or join the 2 pm transfer (optional) from Bordeaux to the barge moored near the Canal des Deux Mers at Castets-en-Dorthe, right in the middle of the Garonne Valley. Your first bike ride is around Castets. On the bike path along the Canal des Deux Mers (Canal of Two Seas) that links the Atlantic to the Mediterranean

Day 2 (Sun) Castets-en- Dorthe – Sauternes. Cycling 35-50km:

Today you discover the Sauternais region. The country roads you cycle are dotted with picturesque chateaux whose elegant turrets rule over an ocean of colourful vines. Late afternoon rejoin the barge and cruise to Cadillac, a small town dominated by a towering castle.

Day 3 (Mon) Cadillac – Entre-Deux-Mers/Graves. Cycling 40km:

Today’s ride leads through the “Premieres Côtes de Bordeaux” winegrowing area. Visit the former residence of the writer Francois Mauriac and the Malromé castle, house of the painter Toulouse-Lautrec, built in the sixteenth century. And of course, wine tastings are on offer! Late afternoon cruise towards Bordeaux.

Day 4 (Tue) Heart of Bordeaux. Cycling 15km:

Cycle both sides of the Garonne River in the cycling capital of France. In the afternoon join your guide for a city tour of Bordeaux.

Day 5 (Wed) Bordeaux – Lamarque – Bourg (by boat). Bourg to Medoc. Cycling 40 km:

Cycle from Bourg to the Medoc wine region.

Day 6 (Thu) Blaye Fortress & vineyards (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Cycling 35-50km:

Enter the Côtes de Blaye to discover what secrets this region holds behind its hilly landscape of endless vines, fairytale chateaux and elegant manor houses. Back on the boat, cruise to the historic village of Bourg-sur-Gironde, with its rich architectural heritage.

Day 7 (Fri) Fronsac, Libourne & Saint Émilion vineyards. Cycling 35-50km:

In Libourne’s picturesque city square, visit the weekly market before starting your exploration of the famous Pomerol and Saint-Émilion wine areas. On small back roads and paths you will get a glimpse of Saint Émilion's and the world’s most famous châteaux and wine estates.

Day 8 (Sat) Fronsac: Disembarkation and (optional) transfer back to Bordeaux:

Your tour concludes.

This tour operates in the opposite direction LIBOURNE/FRONSAC VIA BORDEAUX TO CASTETS-EN-DORTHE some weeks.
