Innsbruck to Venice

Self-Guided: 8 Days / 7 Nights Approx 355 – 455 km

Start from the Austrian border at Brennero Pass: cycle downhill through ancient villages, and green meadows of South Tyrol. Then along the Adige River stopping at the shores of Lake Garda. Discover Verona, the town of Romeo & Juliet, with its impressive Roman arena, and then Vicenza, renowned for the classical Palladio architecture. Reach the Euganean Hills’ thermal district, largest in Europe. Beautiful Padovaa, cradle of arts, will open the way to the Venetian lagoon and the timeless fascination of Venice.

 
 

Your Journey

Day 1 Arrive Innsbruck:

Day 2 Innsbruck – Bressanone (55km)

Transfer to Brennero. Cycle the green Isarco valley, past picturesque villages to reach Fortezza, with its’ ancient fort. Take a break at Lake Varna before arriving Bressanone.

Day 3 Bressanone – Bolzano (45km)

Along the cycle path today stop at huge Sabiona medieval monastery, built on a rocky hill above the Isarco-valley.

Day 4 Bolzano – Trento (65/70 km)

Begin cycling along the River Adige cycle path, through orchards and vineyards of the renowned Wine Route.

Day 5 Trento-Desenzano/Peschiera (50km)

Follow the Adige River to Rovereto. After a short ascent to Passo di San Giovanni, enjoy superb views of Lake Garda. Descend to Riva del Garda and take a ferry to the southern part of the lake.

Day 6 Desenzano/Peschiera-Verona (60/35km)

Cross the hilly landscape surrounding Lake Garda, to return to the Adige River all the way to Verona. Worth visiting are: the Roman Arena, the Church of San Zeno and Juliet’s House.

Day 7 Verona – Vicenza (70/35km)

Cycle amongst vineyards, to the castle of Soave then on to the fortress of Brendola at the Berici Hills. Arrive Vicenza. Explore the Old Town with its beautiful palaces and public buildings by the 16thV architect Andrea Palladio.

Day 8 Vicenza – Padua thermal district (50km)

Cycle just out of Vicenza to the Palladian masterpiece Villa La Rotonda and the frescoes of Tiepolo at Villa Valmarana. Head towards the Euganean Hills, where you can relax in the thermal district.

Day 9: Padua – Mestre/Venice (55km)

Bike next to the Battaglia Canal to Padova, rich in art and history. Continue along the Piovego Canal to Stra then the Brenta Canal, amongst ancient Venetian countryside villas until you reach Mestre, Venice mainland.

Day 10 Mestre/Venice

Tour ends after breakfast.

Terrain

Easy cycling in mostly flat areas on cycle paths with only few short climbs and descents.
